Former President Goodluck Ebele Jonathan has been conferred with the traditional title of Jigon Bauchi by the Emir of Bauchi, Dr Rilwanu Sulaiman Adamu, in recognition of his contributions to democracy, peace and national unity.
The title was conferred on Jonathan during a ceremony at the Emir’s Palace in Bauchi metropolis as part of the former president’s two-day visit to the state.
The Emir described Jonathan as a good leader and commended his commitment to promoting peace, democracy and national unity in Nigeria.
Bauchi State Governor, Senator Bala Abdulkadir Mohammed, who led government officials and other dignitaries to the palace, thanked the Bauchi Emirate for honouring the former president.

Governor Mohammed said the conferment of the title was a recognition of Jonathan’s contributions to the development of democracy and national unity.
He added that the former president’s leadership and service to Nigeria remained worthy of recognition and commendation.
Responding, Jonathan expressed appreciation to the Emir and people of Bauchi State for the honour.
He pledged to respect the laws, traditions and values of the Bauchi Emirate and uphold the dignity attached to the Jigon Bauchi title.
Jonathan said the honour was deeply appreciated and would further strengthen his commitment to peace, unity and democratic development in Nigeria.
