Global Citizen’s Move Afrika tour made a landmark debut in Lagos, Nigeria, with a night of electrifying performances and citizen-driven advocacy. EGOT-winning artist John Legend headlined the sold-out show, hosted by Ebuka Obi-Uchendu, with thrilling performances from Simi and DJ Consequence.
Legend captivated the crowd with hits like Ordinary People, Green Light, All of Me, and Refuge, where he was joined on stage by Simi. “It’s been too long, I’ve missed you all. We belong together, Lagos,” he said, donning outfits by Eleven Sixteen and Orange Culture, while his vocalists showcased Elexiay and Wanni Fuga.
Move Afrika, now spanning from East to West Africa, is pioneering a pan-continental music touring circuit while fostering economic investment, infrastructure development, and local job creation.
“Nigeria’s musical heritage and global influence make it a key destination for Move Afrika. We’re proud to be here and look forward to returning,” said Hugh Evans, CEO of Global Citizen.
Beyond the music, Move Afrika is a powerful platform for healthcare advocacy. In Lagos, Global Citizen hosted the Stride for HER Rights Walkathon, rallying thousands—including WARIF, WBFA, and NSSF—to demand better maternal and child healthcare. Meanwhile, in Kigali, the Together for a Healthier Community initiative provided free reproductive healthcare services.
This year, Move Afrika: Lagos was executed with 90% local crew and 95% locally sourced equipment, reinforcing Nigeria’s role in delivering world-class productions.
As Move Afrika expands, it is not just redefining Africa’s music landscape but also driving economic empowerment and strengthening healthcare systems—one city at a time.
