John David, the CEO of Data Addict and a US Army Veteran, has highlighted major obstacles hindering Nigeria’s cybersecurity advancements.

In an exclusive interview, he pointed out limited funding, outdated infrastructure, and a shortage of cybersecurity professionals as the most pressing challenges.

“Many Nigerian businesses and individuals lack awareness of basic security practices, which complicates enforcement efforts,” John David explained.

He also cited corruption and weak law enforcement as significant barriers to progress.

John David noted that low internet access in rural areas further exacerbates the issue, while Nigeria’s heavy reliance on foreign cybersecurity solutions fails to fully address local threats.

“Most imported security tools aren’t tailored to Nigeria’s unique digital landscape, leaving critical gaps in protection,” he said.

To overcome these challenges, John David called for a coordinated effort between the government, private sector, and international partners.

“Only through collaboration can Nigeria build a resilient cybersecurity framework,” he emphasized.
