The newly – elected Chairman of Joint Negotiating Council (JNC- Lagos State Council), Comrade Olusegun Rahman Balogun, has vowed to prioritize the welfare of workers in the state public service and would not lose focus on the demand for the new minimum wage billed for the year 2024.
The JNC helmsman who made this vow while delivering an acceptance speech shortly after his re-election as the JNC Chairman, also promised not disappoint the workers who were worried as to what the State Government would do on the issue of Wage Award.
“The challenges before us are huge but are not insurmountable. The tasks ahead are daunting, but our resolve is firm! We are prepared to confront these challenges with the last atom of our strength and we are confident that victory is surely ours.
“Politics is over. Let us put our differences behind us and amplify the ideas that unite us and downplay the issues that divide us. Let us speak with one voice and strike with a single kick. Let’s join hands together as a body to collectively project and defend the interest of our members”
Balogun who would lead the Group in the next two years assured that he would live up to his responsibility regarding the a new minimum wage law yet to be passed as workers were already agitating over what the future holds for them.
The Unionist decried that since the removal of the fuel subsidy and the concurrent floating of the naira by this current administration, saying that fixed income earners would no longer breath in a depressed and choking Nigerian economy.
“The harrowing experience of our members finds grim expression in the high cost of living, hike in transportation fare to and fro their workplaces, scarcity of food and other essential commodities, rents, to mention a few. The appalling situation has become so aggravated that our ‘take-homes’ can no longer take us home. However, we shall double up efforts to make sure that workers regain their pride of place in the scheme of things”
He added that though his first tenure achieved was a fruitful outing, however would not rest on his oars but strive to achieve more during his second regimen.
“We have achieved a lot but challenges remain. The battles may be fierce, but our resolve is fiercer. Renewing our mandate is to us, the beacon that guides us through the storm, ensuring that our collective efforts continue to shape a better future for us all.
“Renewing our mandate is a declaration of solidarity and a continued pledge to navigate the challenges ahead and forge a path towards an even brighter tomorrow. We affirm our shared vision, our resilience in adversity, and our dedication to bettering the conditions of every member” he averred.
