Assistant Inspector-General of Police (AIG) in charge of Zone 2, Olohundare Jimoh, has been named the Most Outstanding Anti-Crime Police Chief in West and Central Africa for 2025, in recognition of the crime prevention strategies he introduced during his tenure as Commissioner of Police in Lagos State.
The award, presented by the Security Watch Africa Initiative Network at the 19th African Security Watch Awards in Banjul, The Gambia, was formally handed over to Jimoh at his Lagos office by the organisation’s International Coordinator, Patrick Apambu, and National Coordinator, Elizabeth Ndanku.
Jimoh was unable to attend the award ceremony in The Gambia due to official engagements.
Receiving the award, the AIG dedicated the honour to officers and personnel who served under his command, saying the recognition reflected their collective efforts rather than his personal achievements.
He highlighted the establishment of the Eko Strike Force, a specialised anti-crime team that grew from an initial deployment of two patrol vehicles to a fleet of more than 18, complementing the rapid response capabilities of the Rapid Response Squad (RRS) in tackling crime across Lagos.

Jimoh said his policing strategy was anchored on strong community engagement, noting that Lagos residents had consistently partnered with the police by providing useful information and supporting crime prevention efforts.
He also recalled that local government elections conducted across the state’s 20 Local Government Areas (LGAs) and 37 Local Council Development Areas (LCDAs) during his tenure were peaceful, with no incidents of ballot box snatching or attacks on voters.
According to him, the constitutional mandate of the Nigeria Police Force extends beyond enforcing the law to safeguarding lives and property, adding that he remains committed to advancing effective crime prevention despite the challenges associated with policing.
Speaking at the presentation, Apambu described Jimoh as a disciplined, diligent and result-oriented officer whose distinguished career has seen him serve in several strategic positions, including Force Public Relations Officer (FPRO), Commissioner of Police, Ports Authority Command, Eastern Ports, and Commissioner of Police, Lagos State Command.
He said the award was in recognition of the measurable reduction in crime, innovative policing initiatives and stronger police-community relations recorded during Jimoh’s leadership of the Lagos State Police Command.
