The Jigawa State Government has ordered the closure of all schools across the state over what it described as a security threat.
The Commissioner for Education in the state, Dr Lawan Yusuf, who confirmed the development to newsmen in Dutse, yesterday, said the schools were closed after the state received intelligence reports about possible attacks on schools across the country, particularly in border states.
When Daily Sun visited some of the schools including Government Commercial Secondary School and Nuhu Muhammad Sunusi Government Day Secondary School in the state capital, Dutse, students were seen going home with their luggages, while some the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) personnel were on patrol. Schools in the state were originally scheduled to close on Friday for the session’s long vacation.
