Veteran Nollywood actor, Jide Kosoko, has recalled how the arrival of social media initially worried many older practitioners in the entertainment industry.
According to Kosoko, there were concerns that the growing influence of technology could eventually push experienced actors and other industry veterans out of business.
Speaking in an interview with Sunday Scoop, the actor said he and others from his generation were unsure about what social media would mean for their careers when it first emerged.
“When social media came, we were afraid. Is this not going to kick us out of business? Is this not going to kick us out completely?” he said.
Kosoko, however, said the older generation gradually adapted, with younger colleagues helping them understand and make use of the new technology.

He said social media eventually became an advantage for the industry rather than the threat they initially feared.
“We eventually used it to our advantage, so we have to thank God for that,” he added.
Speaking about artificial intelligence, Kosoko admitted that he has not been able to fully grasp the technology despite its growing presence in the creative industry.
“When I started seeing AI, I still don’t understand it till now,” he said.
The actor’s comments come as Nollywood continues to adapt to rapid technological changes that are transforming how films and other creative content are produced, promoted and consumed.
