The Deputy President of the Senate, Senator Barau I. Jibrin, on Wednesday visited Bunkure Local Government Area (LGA) of Kano State to commiserate with the families of the 16 hunters killed in Uromi, Esan North East LGA of Edo State.
Accompanied by dignitaries including the Minister of State for Housing and Urban Development, Hon. Yusuf Abdullahi Ata, and the Managing Director of the North West Development Commission (NWDC), Professor Abdullahi Shehu Ma’aji, Senator Jibrin met with the grieving families at the At-Taqwa Mosque in the Sabon Fegi area of Bunkure.
Expressing his deep sorrow over the tragic incident, Senator Jibrin reassured the bereaved families that justice would be served. He also announced a donation of N1 million to each of the 16 affected families, amounting to N16 million in total.
“I’m here to sympathise with you over the tragic incident that led to the death of 16 of our brothers last Thursday. May Allah grant them Jannatul Firdaus and quicken the recovery of those injured,” he said.

He further assured them that security agencies were actively working on the case, confirming that apart from the initial 14 suspects arrested, two additional suspects had been apprehended.
“I was worried when the incident happened. I had to call the state governor, security agencies, and all stakeholders involved. They swung into action, and so far, apart from the 14 people who have been arrested, two more suspects have been nabbed. The state governor, who visited my house in Abuja, has assured me that the state government will support you.
“We will not take it lightly. We will ensure that the culprits are brought to book and face the wrath of the law,” he stated.
Senator Jibrin also disclosed that he would sponsor a motion on the killings when the Senate resumes later in the month to ensure the matter receives national attention and justice is swiftly served.
Speaking on behalf of the grieving families, the Chief Imam of the area, Sheikh Zainul Abidina Auwal, expressed gratitude to the Deputy Senate President for his concern and commitment to justice. “We appreciate your efforts in ensuring justice is served. You have shown the qualities of the leader we need for the development of our country,” he said.
