The All Progressives Congress (APC) Kebbi State chapter has urged the security agencies to bring the perpetrators of Jega violence to justice.
The Public Relations Officer (PRO) of the party, Alhaji Isa Asalafi, stated this during a press briefing at the party’s secretariat in Birnin Kebbi.
Asalafi noted that the party has taken note of the recent violence and destruction reported in parts of Jega and considers the incident a serious development that demands a prompt, thorough and impartial investigation.
According to him, “The APC condemns every act of violence, destruction of property, intimidation, and criminality, regardless of the political affiliation, identity, or status of those involved.
“Jega has a long history of active political participation and remains an important community within Kebbi State. The actions of a minority must not be allowed to create a false impression about the character of the people of Jega or undermine the peaceful coexistence that has traditionally characterised the community.
“We therefore call on the security agencies to investigate the incident comprehensively, establish the facts surrounding what happened, identify those responsible, and ensure that anyone found culpable faces the full consequences of the law.

“The APC is particularly concerned by the reported political dimension of the incident. Political competition is a normal feature of democracy, but political disagreement must never degenerate into violence, destruction, intimidation, or confrontation.
“Let us make this absolutely clear: political differences are not a licence for criminality. Democracy is not a platform for violence. And no political objective can justify the destruction of lives, property, or public peace.”
Asalafi also urged all political actors, supporters, and other stakeholders to avoid inflammatory statements, deliberate misinformation, or actions capable of heightening tension in Jega or any other part of Kebbi State.
“Where there are political disagreements, the appropriate avenue is dialogue, lawful political engagement, and established democratic processes. Violence must not be allowed to become a substitute for political argument.
“The APC commends the security agencies, traditional institutions, community leaders, and residents whose efforts contributed to the restoration of calm. We urge them to remain vigilant and continue working together to protect lives and property.
“We equally call for a transparent investigation into the incident so that the facts can be established and justice served. Accountability must be based on evidence, not speculation, political affiliation, or public pressure.”
He added that the APC-led administration of Governor Nasir Idris would remain focused on the development of Kebbi State and the implementation of programmes and projects aimed at improving the lives of citizens.
