Jega, Edun, Onyema, others to lead good governance discourse for national development

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu will on October 30 declare open the 2024 Annual Directors Conference of Chartered Institute of Directors (CIoD) Nigeria, while the opening ceremony will be chaired by Mr. Mutiu Sunmonu, Chairman, Julius Berger Nigeria Plc.
Former chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), Prof Attahiru Jega; Minister, Federal Ministry of Finance, Mr. Wale Edun; the immediate Past Group CEO of Nigerian Exchange Group, Oscar Onyema; Lagos State governor, Mr. Babajide Sanwo-olu, are expected to lead a team of experts in management and administration on good governance discourse at the event.
Briefing newsmen in Lagos, the President & Chairman of the Governing Council of CIoD, Alhaji Tijjani Borodo, affirmed that Doris Uzoka-Anite, Minister, Federal Ministry of Industry, Trade & Investment; prof. Tahir Mamman, Minister of Education, would be there as guests of honour.
According to him, the event is a uniting forum for directors, entrepreneurs, policymakers, and thought leaders to address the pressing issues facing Nigeria’s economy. With the theme, “Good Governance as a Catalyst for Economic Recovery, Growth, and Development,” he identified good governance as a critical requisite to advance economic transformation and national development.
“In the face of ongoing economic challenges, it is essential that we recognize how sound governance practices foster accountability, sustainability, and innovation within our organizations in particular and our nation in general. The theme has real-world implications for economic growth and social progress.
“CIoD Nigeria remains steadfast in its mission to promote global best practices in governance and ethical leadership. Good corporate governance must be a guiding principle as we navigate the complex landscape of economic recovery”, he said.
The conference will focus on leveraging corporate governance to support economic recovery, growth, and development. Key plenary topics include Leadership and Governance in Uncertain Times; Innovation, Technology & Governance; ESG Integration in Nigerian Governance; and Entrepreneurship and Economic Recovery Growth and Development.
“This year’s conference will serve as an exceptional platform for directors, industry leaders, young professionals, and entrepreneurs to engage in knowledge-sharing, mentorship, and professional networking, enhancing discussions on governance, innovation, and national development,” he added.
Chairman of the National Organising Committee for the Conference, Mrs. Fatumata Coker, added that the session speakers during the Conference included Mr. Babatunde Raji Fashola, Former Governor of Lagos State and Former Minister of Works and Housing; Mr. John Obaro, Group Managing Director of Systems Specs Nigeria Limited and Mrs. Hadiza Bala Usman, Special Adviser to the President on Policy Coordination.
