Iyaloja: Market women thank Oba for upholding Edo heritage

A group of market women in Benin City, have expressed solidarity with Omo N’ Oba N’ Edo, Uku Akpolokpolo, Ewuare II, Oba of Benin for upholding Benin’s rich culture and tradition.

Their declaration followed the leadership crisis caused by the recent courtesy visit by Iyaloja-General of Nigeria, Mrs. Folashade Tinubu-Ojo, daughter of President Tinubu to the Oba of Benin Palace in Benin City, where she announced plans to install Mrs Josephine Ibhaguezejele as Edo market leader.

Speaking on behalf of the market women on Monday evening in Oba palace, madam Florence Ahunwan said they were in agreement with Oba Ewuare for his prayers and goodwill to Nigerians in defence of Edo heritage.

Responding to the market women that sang praises of the Oba and thanked him for being a beacon of support to his loyal subjects, Chief Osaro Idah, Obazelu of Benin, joined by other palace chiefs, who received the group on behalf of the palace, acknowledged the comments made by the market women.

He assured the group that their goodwill message would be communicated to the Oba and cautioned them against violence while carrying out their trades at the various markets.
