Acting Vice Chancellor Plateau State University, Professor Shedrack Best, has expressed best wishes to women on the celebration of this year’s International Women’s Day (IWD).
The VC in statement said that PLASU as a citadel of learning embraced the theme of this year’s celebration, which is ‘Choose to Challenge.’
The statement said, “On behalf of the management, staff and students, wishes to congratulate and celebrate all the amazing women of Plateau State, Nigeria and the entire world on the occasion of the International Womens’ Day.
“This year’s theme which is “Choose to Challenge” is wholly embraced by us at the citadel of knowledge. Teaching and research is associated with challenging existing knowledge and way of doing things with a view to brokering change. This year’s theme resonates with our commitment to equality and diversity in our institution and to the education of women. Women have played an important role in shaping our institution’s culture and history, and will continue to do so.
“I acknowledge and appreciate the unique talents, skills and experiences that women bring to our community, to education and to the state and nation. I am particularly proud of the contributions of women in various faculties and directorates of our University. I also salute our teeming female students who represent the future of womanhood into the future.
“Having said all, we recognize that there is still work to be done in ensuring gender equality at our university and in the nation. We must continue to challenge inequality and discrimination, and ensure that all women are treated with respect and given equal opportunities.
“On this International Women’s Day, let us unite and continue to work together towards achieving gender equality and a more inclusive world.”
