Wife of the Kebbi State Governor, Hajiya Zainab Nasir Idris, has appealed to the Civil Society Organisations (CBOs) in the state to join hands with her to curb Gender Based Violence (GBV).

She stated this while addressing a press conference as part of activities lined up to mark 2024 World Women’s Day (IWD) celebration at Government House, Birnin Kebbi.

 

The governor’s wife noted that the call became imperative in view of the fact that the menace required a collective efforts from all stakeholders.

 

According to her, “my door is always open to you all so that together we can tackle the challenges. GBV is not only restricted to raping but it also involves other aspects of women’s life.

“As a husband, you are not expected to beat your wife, you are not expected to maltreat her or abuse her, so, there are different forms gender based violence happening in our society.”

 

The Governor’s wife appealed to women especially the youths to shun negative use of social media, and use it to enrich your wisdoms and knowledge.

 

She said: “let us imbibe the habit of using the social media platforms to increase our knowledge or wealth as against using it to cheat or expose our body.”

She assured women in the state that the present administration under her husband had planned different skills acquisition programmes for women with a view to empowering them to stand on their feet.

Hajiya Zainab also promised to support women to study health related courses in higher Institutions to fill in the manpower need of women in the profession.

She however advocated support for her husband’s administration to enable him deliver his campaign promises as well dividends of democracy to the electorates in the State.
