About 150 women in Yakurr State Constituency have each received a 100,000 naira grant for their small scale businesses.

The grant is courtesy of the lawmaker representing the area in the State House of Assembly Hon. Cyril James Omini.

The lawmaker presented the grant to the benefitting women at Council Guest House, Ugep.

Hon. Cyril Omini disclosed that the empowerment is to commemorate the 2024 International Women’s Day and to demonstrate his unwavering commitment to change the socioeconomic status of women of his constituency amid the trending global economic challenges.

He also disclosed that the grant aligns with with the ‘People First’ mantra of Cross River State Governor, Senator (Prince) Bassey Edet Otu, and President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s Renewed Hope agenda.

The lawmaker who is also the Chairman of the House Committee on Finance and Appropriation added that the grant also forms part of the fulfillment of some of his campaign promises, to empower the youth and women with the aim to alleviating poverty and to better the lot of the people.

He urged the beneficiaries to make judicious use of the empowerment gesture and offer of business training/mentorship.

The lawmaker also hailed his constituents for their unalloyed support, promising to always offer meaningful and effective representation.

Some of the beneficiaries thanked the lawmaker for prioritizing the welfare of his people.
