England striker Ivan Toney has been charged with assault in connection with an alleged incident at a nightclub in central London.
The 30-year-old Al-Ahli forward was charged on July 31 over an incident said to have occurred on Wardour Street, Soho, on December 6.
Toney faces a charge of assault causing actual bodily harm and is scheduled to appear before Westminster Magistrates’ Court on September 24.
A spokesperson for the former Brentford striker said Toney acknowledged the charge but remained prepared to defend himself in court.
“Ivan acknowledges the charge and although he is naturally shocked, he looks forward to being allowed to clear his name in court,” the spokesperson said.
Toney began his professional career with Northampton Town before spells at Newcastle United, Peterborough United and Brentford, where he established himself as one of the Premier League’s leading forwards.
He joined Saudi Pro League side Al-Ahli in 2024 after a prolific spell at Brentford that helped earn him international recognition with England.
Toney was subsequently selected for England’s World Cup squad and started the team’s 6-4 victory over France in the bronze-medal match.
His other appearance at the tournament came as a late substitute during England’s 2-1 semi-final defeat to Argentina.
The legal proceedings are expected to begin with Toney’s appearance before magistrates in September, while he continues his football career in Saudi Arabia.
Toney’s representatives have maintained that he intends to use the court process to defend himself and clear his name.
