Africa number one male table tennis star, Aruna Quadri has moved up one spot to become the 13th best in the world following his brilliant run at the Singapore Smash.
It was a points bonanza for the Nigerian table tennis star and all players that posted big performances at WTT Singapore Smash that ended last week at the Lion City, as the Week 12 of the ITTF Table Tennis World Rankings were released on Tuesday.
It was cheery news for Quadri who created one of the major upsets in the tournament after he defeated world No. 4 ranked Harimoto Tomokazu of Japan to become the first African to reach the quarterfinals of the WTT Singapore Smash.
He then missed out on reaching the semifinal after suffering a 4-0 (7-11, 10-12, 2-11, 2-11) defeat to Brazil and World No. 5 Hugo Calderano.
In the new rankings, Quadri retained his crown as Africa’s best as he moved from 14th to 13th accumulating 2005 points.
Meanwhile, the Nigerian was however listed among the world’s elite table tennis stars that will compete at WTT Champions Xinxiang in China next month.
