As the tenure of the leadership of Igbo Speaking Community (ISC), Lagos, led by Chief Ebere Ubani, gradually draws to an end, members of the socio-cultural group are prepared to elect new leaders; to steer the affairs of the body for the next four years.
Favourite among many contenders for the glorified seat of President General (PG) is Chief Sunday Udeh, popularly known as “Onwa,” who recently heeded to pressure from group of members, known as the “Continuity Group” to take over the leadership mantle.
At a recent gathering to announce his acceptance to join the presidential race, Chief Udeh emphasised the need for unity of purpose amongst Ndi-igbo, and stressed that, if elected, he will pursue vigorously the unification of Ndi-igbo from all walks of life.
In response to newsmen on his view on the placement of the Ndi-igbo in Lagos State, shortly after his declaration, Udeh described as unfair, the neglect of Ndi-igbo where it matters most, while lamenting the swelling numbers of them languishing in prison for crimes they knew nothing about. In his words, majority of them are dumped in the cell, awaiting trial for years, simply because nobody cares about their innocence.
He, however, promised to devote time and resources in working out better ways of ensuring the protection and progression of ISC members in Lagos and environs.
Having served with the incumbent as deputy president general, he assured of continuation of ongoing projects already achieved by Chief Ubani-led administration.
Present at the declaration were LGA/LCDA chapter chairmen, top dignitaries and swarms of friends and supporters among whom were Chief Ubani, (President General), Eze John Nwosu (Eze Igbo Mushin), Eze C.O Anomnaeze (Oji Ofo Ndigbo, Lagos State), Vin Osakwe (President, Anambra state town unions Lagos state), Chief Chris Ekwilo JP (Anya Igbo na Lagos) and Pastor P.C. Ezeama Oto-Awori ii chairman.
