Israel’s Defence Minister, Israel Katz, has issued a stark warning that has sent shockwaves across the Middle East: any leader appointed by Iran to continue hostile operations could be targeted for elimination, “no matter what his name is or where he hides.”

Katz made the statement on social media platform X on Wednesday, framing it as part of Israel’s broader security strategy against Tehran.

“Every leader appointed by the Iranian terror regime to continue advancing plans to destroy Israel, threaten the United States and the free world, and oppress the Iranian people will be an unequivocal target for elimination,” he wrote.

The warning follows a dramatic escalation in the region after coordinated air and missile strikes by US and Israeli forces earlier this week, which reportedly killed Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei along with other senior Iranian officials. Iran has retaliated with strikes against Israeli territory and US military bases in neighbouring states, raising fears of a wider conflict.

Katz confirmed that Israel’s military has been instructed to intensify operational readiness. “The Prime Minister and I have instructed the IDF to prepare and act by all means necessary to carry out this mission as an integral part of Operation ‘Lion’s Roar,’” he said, signalling Israel’s commitment to pre-emptive action against perceived threats.

Security analysts say Katz’s statement underscores Israel’s long-standing doctrine of proactive defence, designed to deter attacks and counter Iran’s influence in the region. However, the declaration also raises the stakes significantly, with critics warning that such rhetoric could further inflame tensions and push both nations closer to open conflict.

In an already volatile Middle East, the warning is clear: Israel is prepared to act decisively, and in this new chapter of the Israel-Iran rivalry, no leader may be beyond reach.
