Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi has said that Supreme Leader, Ali Khamenei is still alive.

Araghchi stated this in a Saturday interview with US outlet NBC News, following coordinated attacks launched on Iran by the United States and Israel.

Speaking from Tehran, the foreign minister said the Supreme Leader “is alive as far as I know”, but admitted “one or two commanders” may have been killed.

He said, “Almost all officials are safe and sound and alive. We may have lost one or two commanders, but that is not a big problem.”

Araghchi slammed US Donald Trump for attempting to initiate regime change in Iran, insisting it was impossible because many Iranians back the government.

“You cannot do regime change while millions of people are supporting this so-called regime,” he said.

He stated that Tehran is “certainly interested for de-escalation” but noted there were no talks at the moment.

“Well, there is no communication right now. But if Americans want to talk to us, they know how,” he said.

The foreign minister said the scale of damage caused by US/Israeli attacks has been exaggerated while praising Iran’s rapid military response.

He disclosed he had reached out to Gulf states and “explained for them that we have no intention to attack them but we are actually attacking the American bases in the act of self defence”.
