Iran has executed two men convicted of spying for Israel, accusing them of providing sensitive military and security information to the Israeli intelligence agency, Mossad, in the latest wave of executions linked to alleged espionage.
The Iranian judiciary announced on Monday that Omid Behzad and Pouria Safvat were hanged after being found guilty of collaborating with Israel and transmitting the locations of strategic military and security sites.
According to Mizan, the judiciary’s official news outlet, the pair supplied intelligence that allegedly helped Israel pursue its military objectives during the conflict.
> “Omid Behzad and Pouria Safvat were hanged this morning for transmitting the coordinates of sensitive military and security sites to Mossad agents,” the judiciary said.
The report stated that both men were convicted of “espionage and collaboration with the Zionist regime,” although it did not disclose when they were arrested or when their trial took place.

Iranian authorities alleged that the men assisted Israeli intelligence by passing information on military and security facilities during the war.
The executions come amid an intensified crackdown on alleged spies since the outbreak of the conflict involving Iran, Israel and the United States in February. Tehran has increasingly relied on capital punishment for individuals accused of working with foreign intelligence agencies.
Iran remains one of the world’s leading executioners, ranking second only to China, according to rights organisations, including Amnesty International.
Data released by the Norway-based Iran Human Rights and the Paris-based Together Against the Death Penalty (ECPM) showed that at least 1,639 people were executed in Iran last year, the highest annual figure recorded since 1989.
Last week, Amnesty International also condemned what it described as an escalation in executions after Iranian authorities announced the hanging of two men convicted over their alleged involvement in anti-government protests.
