IPOB reads riot act to members, warns against infiltration attempts

Election countdown: Don’t sit at home, go out and vote, IPOB urges South East

From Stanley Uzoaru, Owerri

The Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) has charged its members to remain focused on the group’s core objectives, particularly the release of its leader, Mazi Nnamdi Kanu and the restoration of Biafra.

In a statement by Emma Powerful, IPOB’s spokesperson, the group said it had resisted attempts by enemies to infiltrate its ranks and divert its attention from the goal of Biafra restoration.

The statement identified three key areas of focus for members, including global campaigns for Mazi Nnamdi Kanu’s release, diplomatic efforts to highlight Biafra’s sovereignty and commemorating the May 30 Heroes Remembrance Day.

IPOB threatened to discountenance any posts or comments deviating from these objectives, starting from 6pm yesterday, April 7.

His statement read in part: “Let it be clearly stated for the avoidance of doubt that the grand plot to divide or infiltrate IPOB, which began in 2016, was carefully hatched by the Nigerian government and its colonial masters. Their intention has always been to weaken the movement from inside.

“They exploit the temporary absence of our leader to groom opportunistic individuals, especially those close to the corridors of power by appealing to their natural greedy tendencies in a bid to usurp authority.

“These same charlatans succeeded in splitting MASSOB into factions (BIM/MASSOB & MASSOB), and they foolishly believed they could replicate that treachery against IPOB. They know they would never dare attempt such nonsense if Onyendu Mazi Nnamdi Kanu was physically present among us.

“We have a very limited window of opportunity to secure the unconditional freedom of our leader, Onyendu Kanu and to restore the sovereign nation of Biafra, exactly as Chukwu Okike Abiama intended. The survival of other endangered ethnic nationalities in the region also depends on this divine mandate.

“Therefore, with immediate effect and until the freedom of Onyendu Kanu is secured, which will inevitably lead to the final restoration of Biafra, all authentic and genuine IPOB members must focus exclusively on the following three issues and nothing else: total and unwavering focus on global campaigns and rallies demanding the immediate and unconditional freedom of our leader, Onyendu Kanu.

“Intensification of diplomatic onslaught across all fronts and all continents to drive home the undeniable truth that only the sovereign state of Biafra can guarantee the safety of lives and properties for all who presently inhabit the geopolitical space called Nigeria.

“Focused and memorable activities to mark the May 30 Heroes Remembrance Day 2026 in a manner that honours our fallen heroes and reinforces our collective resolve.

“Every other topic, discussion, comment, write-up or social media post that is not directly geared towards Biafra restoration along these three clearly defined lines must be disregarded and treated as the handiwork of an enemy of Biafra. From 6pm, yesterday evening, April 7, any post or comment that deviates from these three focal points, shall be discountenanced outrightly,” Powerful stated.
