The Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) has restated that Barrister Ifeanyi Ejiofor is no longer the legal representative of the group or its leader, Mazi Nnamdi Kanu, accusing him of professional misconduct and alleging he now works against the group’s interests.
In a press statement signed by its spokesperson, Emma Powerful, and made available to the media, yesterday, IPOB said Kanu had “debriefed and sacked” Ejiofor over what it described as “gross incompetence and professional misconduct.”
The statement noted that the decision followed Ejiofor’s alleged mishandling of Kanu’s case, including “allowing an impermissible civil stay to be used to overturn a criminal discharge.” IPOB said the removal was “complete and permanent.”
“For the avoidance of doubt: Onyendu Mazi Nnamdi Kanu debriefed and sacked Mr. Ejiofor. Our leader removed him completely and permanently,” the statement read.
IPOB further alleged that since his dismissal, Ejiofor “has hired himself out to enemies of our leader and has been appearing to advocate for interest groups working against the release of Onyendu Mazi Nnamdi Kanu.”

“He does not speak for us. He does not represent us. He is an impostor,” Powerful stated.
The group issued a direct warning to media organisations.
“Any media house that publishes or refers to Ifeanyi Ejiofor as IPOB counsel will be made to face the full wrath of the law. This is not a warning, it is a directive,” the statement said.
While acknowledging that Ejiofor may represent individuals in his private capacity, IPOB said the only recognised legal team for the group is “that which is appointed by our leader and founder, Onyendu Mazi Nnamdi Kanu.”
The group called on “all Biafrans to remain vigilant and reject any person or group that seeks to misrepresent IPOB or undermine the authority of our leader.”
