Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) has condemned the killing of its members during a pro-Nnamdi Kanu protest in Abia State last Friday.
IPOB, in a statement by its spokesperson, Emma Powerful, warned those fuelled the alleged killing of its members during the protest to retrace their steps to avoid turning the state to a killing field.
Powerful had alleged, in the statement, that over 50 of its members were unjustly killed by the joint security that dispersed a peaceful protest of their members demanding the release of their leader, Kanu, from detention.
“More than 50 unarmed protesters were murdered in cold-blood on Friday for simply asking the Federal Government to obey its own court which ordered that Kanu should be released unconditionally.
“At the last count, more than 100 unarmed protesters are still missing while IPOB recovered about three bodies of our murdered youths. More than 30 protesters sustained one degree of bullet wound or the other,” Powerful alleged.
He appealed to the security agencies to release the bodies of the protesters allegedly killed during the protest for proper burial by their families just as the group reiterated the stop and search of the houses of their members in the state.
“The newly elected governor and the present governor of Abia State must take notice and stop this atrocities happening right now in Abia State.
“The Abia State governor-elect must not allow the agendists turn Abia State into another killing field. Both the outgoing governor and the new governor-elect must ensure those behind this unprovoked attack and murder of peaceful protesters are brought to justice.
“We warn those behind this senseless attack and massacre of peaceful IPOB protesters to retrace their steps or face the dance of the spirits of our land. It is not an offence to protest for the unconditional release of Kanu, who is illegally detained by the Federal Government.
“IPOB is peaceful but can pulldown the tallest Iroko standing in our way. An Igbo adage says, ‘If a deity proves too powerful, it will be reminded of the tree used to carved it’. “
“The state governor-elect should be watchful of those who will derail his government even before he starts and make the state ungovernable. IPOB intelligence unit intercepted the discussion leading up to the mindless and bloody attack on peaceful IPOB protesters on Friday.
“The newly elected governor should make it categorically clear to the unscrupulous elements around him to stay clear and allow him to lead Abia State to prosperity. Abia State cannot afford another set of insatiable, greedy and self-seeking godfathers,” Powerful said.
Powerful equally warning the governor-elect of Enugu State and said: “All the newly elected governors in the eastern states should know that IPOB is watching them. Those who need peace will have complete support of IPOB, but those who want to use the killing of IPOB for political advantage should be ready for us.”
