To address the plight of excluded people accessing financial service and in marking the year’s International Women’s Day celebration, Accion Microfinance Bank has provided medical cover of N1 million to 10 widows.
Addressing newsmen in Lagos over the weekend, Managing Director, Accion Microfinance Bank Plc, Taiwo Joda, noted that among the clients, the bank serves women who despite the loss of their husbands, have been able to phenomenally do business, take care of their households, and take their students to school, through the support of Accion Microfinance Bank.
He further added that the theme for this year’s celebration, “Balance For Better” acknowledges the struggles of some of the bank’s widowed clients.
“This is because we understand the grit, determination, resilience they put in to survive especially amid contending and contrasting cultures across Nigeria and so to this end therefore, as part of our social impact program, Accion MFB, will be providing medical cover of 1 million naira to 10 widows.
This is aimed at supporting these mothers by taking off the burden for meeting medical bills so they can focus on further growing their businesses and improving quality of life for their families.” Joda explained.
Joda further explain how the 10 widows were picked, noting that despite the challenges faced by them, they have been very consistent in the repayment of their loans as they never defaulted over the years.
“We believe strongly in these people as they are examples worth emulating hence seen as they are people we should project for Nigerians to see and to encourage other widows out there that there is hope for them”, he said.
According to the bank’s MD, “This further underscores our mandate to ensure that the clients we serve get to realize a brighter future”.
