Super Falcons

The Nigeria Super Falcons showcased their enduring class as they overturned their recent defeat to Cameroon’s Indomitable Lionesses, securing a convincing 3-1 victory in the second match of a two-game tour at the Military Stadium in Yaoundé on Tuesday.

Three days after narrowly losing the first encounter, the Falcons returned with renewed vigor. Head Coach Justin Madugu made seven changes to the starting lineup, a move that paid immediate dividends.

Cameroon struck early, scoring in the seventh minute and briefly reigniting memories of their weekend triumph. However, Nigeria responded in the 32nd minute when Chinwendu Ihezuo rose above her marker to head in Rinsola Babajide’s precise cross, leveling the score. Just before halftime, Babajide showcased her attacking instinct once again, firing Nigeria ahead in the 43rd minute after a scramble in the box.

Madugu’s revamped midfield pressed aggressively, cutting off central options and forcing Cameroon into hopeful deliveries, setting the stage for Nigeria to control the tempo.

In the 64th minute, Captain Rasheedat Ajibade delivered a teasing cross from the right flank, met by Michelle Alozie, who launched herself into a flying header to seal the 3-1 victory.

Both sides are using these fixtures as part of their preparation for the 14th edition of the Women Africa Cup of Nations, slated for Morocco from March 17 to April 3.
