First Lady of Nigeria Oluremi Tinubu has urged citizens of the country to reject division and embrace tolerance, justice, mutual respect, and dialogue as Nigeria joins the rest of the world to mark the 2026 International Day of Peace.
Mrs Tinubu, in a message to mark the day on Monday, said lasting peace could only be achieved through the commitment and participation of everyone.
The 2026 International Day of Peace is being marked with the theme: “Invest in Peace: For Everyone, Everywhere, Every Day.”
The First Lady said peace should not be seen merely as the absence of conflict, stressing that it must be deliberately nurtured in homes, schools, workplaces and communities.
“Peace begins in our homes and extends to our schools, workplaces, and communities. It is strengthened through tolerance, patience, justice, mutual respect, and dialogue,” she said.
She called on Nigerians to shun actions and attitudes capable of deepening divisions in the country, urging citizens instead to focus on values that promote unity and peaceful coexistence.

“I encourage all Nigerians to reject division and embrace the values that unite us as one people,” she said.
According to her, Nigerians can contribute to building a peaceful society through their everyday conduct, including the words they use, the choices they make and their actions towards others.
“Let us invest in peace through our words, choices, and actions every day,” she added.
The First Lady wished Nigerians a peaceful celebration of the 2026 International Day of Peace.
