The Chairman of the National Hajj Commission of Nigeria (NAHCON), Prof. Abdullahi Usman, has resigned from his position with no official reason given for the resignation.

President Bola Tinubu appointed Usman to be the chairman of NAHCON after his predecessor, Jalal Arabi was sacked and
he oversaw his first Hajj operations in 2025.

Arabi was being investigated for allegedly misappropriating funds released by the federal government for the 2024 Islamic pilgrimage.

Usman’s tenure was plagued by allegations of financial mismanagement and misappropriation of funds during the 2025 Hajj and in January 2026, the crisis worsened when some NAHCON commissioners reportedly submitted a petition to President Tinubu, accusing the chairman of leadership failures and poor administrative conduct.

Vice President Kashim Shettima had to then intervene by convening a meeting with stakeholders two weeks ago in an attempt to reconcile aggrieved parties and restore stability within the commission.
