Leading figures in Nigeria’s insurance industry have charged the newly inaugurated President of the Chartered Insurance Institute of Nigeria (CIIN), Mr Akinjide Orimolade, to provide responsible, transparent and accountable leadership that will strengthen the Institute’s relevance, advance professionalism, and position the insurance sector for sustainable growth and greater public confidence.

Speaking at the valedictory ceremony held in honour of the immediate past President of CIIN, Mrs Yetunde Ilori, in Lagos, captains of industry drawn from the broking arm, loss-adjusting arm, insurance agency sector, actuarial profession, risk management profession, insurance operators and other segments of the industry tasked Orimolade with achieving even greater results for the sector.

Giving her charge, Ilori, who expressed confidence in Orimolade, encouraged him to lead with humility, courage and integrity. She reminded her successor that there would be moments requiring difficult decisions and the management of competing interests; in those moments, he must have the courage to stand firmly for what is right, even when it is the more demanding path.

“Be bold enough to embrace innovation where it advance the profession and steadfast enough to preserve the enduring values upon which this Institute has been built, above all, let integrity remain the defining hallmark of your leadership, inspiring confidence, strengthening accountability, and earning the enduring trust of members and stakeholders alike”

Reflecting on her achievements, the outgoing president reminded her successor that history remembers leaders not merely for the positions they held, but for the principles they upheld and the legacy they bequeathed.

“I believe you will provide purposeful and visionary leadership, guiding the Institute to even greater heights. Leadership is a relay, not a race. Each administration builds upon the achievements of its predecessors while laying a solid foundation for those who follow.

“As you assume this noble office, build consensus and never lose sight of the Institute’s enduring mission to develop competent, ethical and globally respected insurance professionals. Continue to champion excellence, strengthen our educational and professional standards, inspire the next generation of practitioners and make decisions that will leave the Institute stronger than you found it”

She implored all stakeholders to accord him and the Governing Council unwavering support, noting that the success of every administration is a shared responsibility and cannot be achieved in isolation.

“The foundations we have strengthened will continue to support the growth of the profession, while the leadership we inaugurate promises fresh vision, renewed energy and even greater accomplishments,” she added.
