Inspector runs amok in Calabar, shoots 1 dead, injure 3

The Cross River State Police Command has confirmed the arrest of a police  inspector who allegedly shot four persons along Watt Market in Calabar.

The yet- to- be identified inspector went on a  shooting spree in the Watt business area of Calabar, the Cross River State capital.

One of the victims died on the spot,while three were rushed to hospital and are in a very critical condition.

A witness said the inspector suddenly rushed out of  Atakpa Police station, cocked his gun and began shooting at traders in the market which is opposite the police station.

When contacted, the Police Public Relations Officer SP Irene Ugbo confirmed the incident saying the inspector  has been arrested and the situation has stabilized.

“The inspector came back from a night duty and when a police officer comes back from a night duty he is expected to drop his rifle at the station.

“The inspector refused to drop his rifle and was misbehaving.The policemen around him tried to calm him down  and all of a sudden he ran out and  started shooting.

“We have arrested him and presently trying to ensure that the injured people are receiving treatment”, she said.
