A Police Inspector attached to the Operations Department of the Enugu State Police Command Headquarters, Dr. Paul Ikechukwu Obodo, has died after he was allegedly knocked down by a vehicle in a suspected police convoy in Enugu.

Dr. Obodo, a native of Nkpologu in Uzo-Uwani Local Government Area of Enugu State and a PhD holder, reportedly sustained fatal injuries in the incident, which occurred under circumstances that were still unclear as of the time of this report.

Sources familiar with the incident alleged that the inspector was struck by a vehicle travelling in a police convoy. The claim has, however, not been independently verified.

The Enugu State Police Command, while expressing sadness over the officer’s death, said there was no evidence, yet, linking the fatal hit-and-run accident to any police convoy.

Reacting to the incident, the Police Public Relations Officer, Daniel Ndukwe, said: “Losing a police officer or any other person in such circumstances is deeply disheartening and must be thoroughly investigated.

“However, there is no evidence establishing that a police convoy was involved in the fatal hit-and-run motor-pedestrian accident at this time.”

The command said investigations were ongoing to establish the circumstances surrounding the inspector’s death.
