Tragedy struck Rim Village in Riyom Local Government Area of Plateau State on Tuesday night when gunmen launched a sudden assault, leaving two persons dead and two others wounded.

The attackers reportedly stormed the village around 10:30 pm, firing indiscriminately before fleeing into nearby bushes, according to local sources. The two injured victims were swiftly taken to a nearby hospital for urgent medical care.

National Publicity Secretary of the Berom Youth Movement, Rwang Tengwong, confirmed the incident to newsmen in Jos, describing the community as thrown into panic by the sporadic violence.

“Gunmen stormed Rim Village around 10 pm and opened fire sporadically. Two people have been confirmed killed while two others were rushed to hospital with injuries,” Tengwong stated, highlighting the shock and fear gripping residents.

He lamented that the attack represents yet another episode in the persistent insecurity plaguing Riyom and other communities across the state, urging security operatives to intensify patrols and ensure the perpetrators are brought to justice.

Despite attempts, efforts to obtain a comment from the Plateau Police Command, led by SP Alfred Alabo, were unsuccessful as of press time.

Residents continue to live under heightened anxiety as local authorities and community leaders seek ways to bolster security, with calls growing louder for immediate intervention to prevent a repeat of such violent incidents.
