Paul Ibe, Media Adviser to former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, said insecurity has festered in Nigeria because President Bola Tinubu has been engaging in trial and error with the nation’s security.
He added that the president prioritised political patronage over competence in appointments of officials to handle the nation’s security affairs.
Ibe said this informed the president’s decision to appoint an accountant, Muhammadu Badaru, and a teacher, Bello Matawalle, as defence ministers.
Ibe said this in an X post on Tuesday, hours after the presidency announced the appointment of former Chief of Defence Staff, Gen. Christopher Musa (rtd) as Minister of Defence to replace Badaru, who resigned on Monday on health grounds.

Ibe said, “It is now crystal clear that the state of insecurity in Nigeria is what it is because President Tinubu prioritised politics in the appointment of those saddled with the jobs of security.
“How does he explain that in a season of heightened insecurity, both the Minister of Defence and Minister of State for Defence are not former military personnel with experiences in operational and administrative aspects of military affairs.
“They are both former Governors of the states of Zamfara and Jigawa. One is an accountant while the other a teacher, who, as Governor, achieved little in stemming the terrorism and banditry that defined his era.
“This is yet another confirmation of the trial and error model of the Tinubu-led administration.”
