Insecurity: Osun parties advised to suspend campaigns

From Lateef Dada, Osogbo

The Osun State Police Command has advised political parties, candidates, supporters and stakeholders in Oriade Local Government  to suspend planned political activities scheduled for today .

In a statement yesterday, Osun State Police Public Relations Officer, Abiodun Ojelabi, said all activities including political gatherings, rallies, campaigns, processions and all other political-related activities should be suspended.

The police said the advice became necessary due to credible intelligence and security concerns, and the non-cooperative attitude of some parties, despite efforts by the command to foster peace.

The police said all efforts to promote peace ended in a deadlock, prompting the proactive measure.

The command said the advice became necessary to prevent any breach of peace or breakdown of law and order, maintain public order, and protect the lives and property of residents.

Ojelabi added that the directive is also linked to the fact that a peace meeting earlier scheduled by the Commissioner of Police for the concerned political parties could not hold.

The police reiterated their commitment to ensuring a peaceful environment and urged the public to remain law-abiding and cooperate with security agencies.
