• Group unveils new leader in Oyo
Aareonakakanfo of Yoruba land, Iba Gani Abiodun Adams has assured all Yoruba sons and daughters across the South-West and beyond that the Oodua People’s Congress (OPC) will continue to strengthen the security architecture of the region, insisting that the Yoruba socio-cultural organization remains the formidable platform that could help in advancing the cause of the race.
Speaking in Ibadan at the Mapo Hall during the 2023 Open-Air National Coordinating Council (NCC)meeting of the OPC, Adams stated that the meeting was part of the ongoing orientation programme for members of the organisation, adding that the OPC has evolved to become the leading organisation that will protect the interest of Yoruba race anytime any day.
He named Dr Abiola Olatunji as the new coordinator of the OPC in Oyo state, maintaining that the change of leadership of the organisation in the state had to do with the group’s determination to sustain the ideals and culture of the organisation.
“Yoruba from across the South-West believe in our ability to strengthen the security architecture of the region. We will continue to play our roles in ensuring adequate security of the region, even as we will not relent in our efforts to sustain the ideals of the organisation.
“Dr Olatunji, the new OPC coordinator for Oyo State, is a man of integrity, a man that has the leadership quality, experience, exposure to lead the organisation in the state,” he stated. On the reason for the change in leadership, Iba Adams said the former leaders of the OPC in Oyo and Osun states lost their positions to the allure of politics.
In his remarks, the Basorun of Oyo, High Chief Yusuf Akinade said the OPC has remained a blessing to Yoruba land, adding that members of the organisation should continue to emulate Aare Gani Adams’ exemplary leadership in all their activities.
Former Special Adviser to the Oyo State Governor on Culture, Akeem Ademola Ige, said the OPC in the state has done well in ensuring peace. He said the Oyo State government would continue to support the organisation in fulfilling its lofty ideals..
