The inspector General of Police, Olatunji Rilwal Disu has ordered  Kebbi State Police Command to be sharing intelligence with sisters security of neighboring states to have total control over infiltration of criminal elements.

Disu stated this while addressing officers in Birnin Kebbi during the commissioning of Violent Crime Response Unit (VCRU) at the Mopol barrack.

The IGP , represented by Deputy Inspector General of Police, Suleiman Abdul explained that due to Kebbi uniqueness ,and sensitive geographic terrain within the Northwest geopolitical zone, with extensive riverine waterways that border both international nations and multiple domestic states, security strategies must be digital and intelligence sharing must be shared.

According to him, “your primary operational challenges centre on preventing transnational smuggling networks, protecting agrarian communities from violent displacement by bandits, and securing your expansive waterways from criminal elements who utilize boats and river networks for illicit logistics and tactical evasion.

“The Kebbi Command must immediately re-engineer its operational strategies to reflect a robust regional and federal synergy. You must optimize your riverine patrols, combining physical presence with actionable intelligence gathered in direct partnership with local fishing communities, transport unions, and traditional institutions.

“Your implementation of ‘Handshake Patrols” must extend not only to land routes bordering Sokoto and Zamfara but also to coordinated joint efforts along the river entry points linking neighbouring jurisdictions.

“Ensure that your tactical teams are in a state of constant communication compatibility with contiguous commands to deny criminals jurisdictional escape routes”.

Disu who commended the officers of the command for their resilience, courage to arrest alot of criminals, said, the offensive must be sustained.

“Keep pushing hard, stay sharp, and sustain this momentum. You are the pride of the force. Thank you for your dedication and bravery.”

“To transform this bravery into an institutional legacy, the Kebbi State Command must fully integrate and enforce the six core policy pillars of the IGP’s administration thrust:
Intelligence-Led and Technology-Driven Policing: Moving away from purely conventional, reactive methods to proactive, evidence-based law enforcement powered by data analytics, digital forensics, and centralized information frameworks (such as the Nigeria Police Force Crime and Incident Database – NPF-ICD)”.

Earlier, Kebbi Commissioner of Police,Umar Hadejia, said since he assumed office 12th, Jan ,2026, he had toured all his Divisions to have comprehensive assessment.

He noted that, Kebbi are among the states sharing borders with other nations, making it a border for criminals to exploit

” These border areas are frequently exploited by criminal elements, including Lakurawa bandits, Mamudawa/Boko Haram militias e.t.c to launch cross-border attacks and escape to their hideouts within forested border areas “.

Hadejia added that, his Command has sustained intelligence-led policing, Community Policing concept and robust collaboration with sister security agencies.
