From Jude Owuamanam, Jos
General Secretary of the Evangelical Church Winning All (ECWA), Dr Ayuba Asheshe, has presented a gloomy picture of the victims of insecurity in Nigeria since 2009.
He spoke at a press briefing at the ECWA headquarters in Jos on Friday.
Asheshe stated that the church has incontrovertible evidence that Christian genocide is real in Nigeria as reaffirmed by the United States President, Donald Trump.
According to him, ECWA is in support of the recent efforts by the Bola Ahmed Tinubu administration to tackle insecurity in the country.
Asheshe said that documented evidence showed that 1,200 churches were being attacked annually, which could be broken down to 100 churches every month or three churches daily, totalling 19,100 churches over a period of 16 years.

He stated further that more than 600 clerics, comprising 350 pastors and 250 Catholic priests, have been abducted, with many killed, adding that between 2009 and 2023, an estimated 52,000 Christians were killed, 18,500 abducted, and over 20,000
churches and Christian communities attacked.
He added that statistics by Open Doors USA showed that 82 per cent of Christians killed worldwide between October 2022 and September 2023 were Nigerians, while over 3.5million Christians have been displaced; their homes and churches were razed.
Quoting reports by Armed Conflict Location and Event Data Project (ACLED), he said more than 100,000 Christians have been killed in Nigeria over the past two decades.
Asheshe said within ECWA alone, 208 members were abducted between 2023 and 2024. He noted that many of the abductees lost their lives in captivity.
He urged the government to do more to stem the tide of continuous attacks, burning of churches and killing of Christians across the country.
