The Managing Director/Chief Executive Officer, Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC), Samuel Ogbuku, yesterday, said installation of 1×15MVA 33/11KV injection substation in Amufi in Ikpoba-Okha Local Government Area of Edo State will boost the economic activities in the community and by extension, the state.
Ogbuku, who stated this, yesterday, during the commissioning, said the inauguration of the project in a rural community like Amufi, has corrected the wrong impression held by many Nigerians that the NDDC is not working.
He said the project is in line with the Renewed Hope of President Bola Tinubu who has given them a marching order that all abandoned projects must be completed.
Ogbuku, while thanking the community for protecting the facility from vandals since it was abandoned in 2012, said he has also heard of the community’s demand for an access road to the facility and assured the road will be constructed.
He called on other communities in the Niger Delta region to learn from Amufi community and ensure government facilities are well preserved.
On his part, Executive Director, Projects, Victor Antai, said the injection substation cost N248 million.
He said the contract provides for the procurement and installation of 1×15MVA 33/11KV transformer with 33KV 1250A SF6 circuit breaker, switchgear panels and tripping unit and 1km 33KV high tension overhead line.
Antai added that the completed project has been tested by the Nigeria Electricity Management Services Agency and certified to be good.
He said the project has improved the energy requirements of the community and its environs and will also increase productivity in business for companies and artisans.
Also speaking, the senator representing Edo South senatorial district, Neda Imasuen, said the importance of electricity cannot be overemphasised in any given community.
He deplored the bad condition of the road leading to the substation and appealed to the commission to fix it so that it.
The Edo State representative on the NDDC board, Patrick Aisowieren, urged the people of the community to take delivery of the facility and ensure it is preserved for their own good.
