The camp of the governorship candidate of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) in Kano State, Aminu Abdussalam Gwarzo, has said that the controversy over the temporary omission of his name by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), has boosted the party’s popularity ahead of the 2027 elections.
Reacting to INEC’s reinstatement of Gwarzo’s name, his spokesperson, Ibrahim Garba Shuaibu, said the party was never shaken by the development, insisting that the NDC had complied with all electoral requirements.
Shuaibu also said the party viewed the omission as a temporary setback that would be corrected.

“We were not frightened because we followed all the laid-down procedures from party membership to the nomination process and submission of our candidate’s details,” he said.
He noted that the incident has instead generated public sympathy and attracted more supporters to the party.
“What the electoral commission intended as a setback has actually worked in our favour. It has increased our supporters, strengthened our popularity and made more people identify with us,” Shuaibu added.
He said the NDC will sustain its voter mobilisation and sensitisation across the state, expressing confidence that the party’s chances in the forthcoming governorship poll have been further strengthened.
