The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has uploaded the new logo of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) on its official website, following a Federal High Court’s judgment directing the recognition of the party’s modified logo and colour design.
The commission also updated the NDC’s leadership details on its website, listing Cleopas Moses Zuwoghe as National Chairman and Ikenna Morgan Enekweizu as National Secretary.
John Odey is listed as National Treasurer, while Mainasara Abubakar Sani is named National Financial Secretary. Reuben Egwuaba is also listed as the party’s National Legal Adviser.
INEC marked the five leadership positions as having been updated “by court order,” indicating that the changes were made pursuant to a judicial directive.
The development followed a judgment delivered by Justice J. O. Abdulmalik of the Federal High Court in Abuja in a suit instituted by the NDC against INEC.
The case, filed under suit number FHC/ABJ/CS/1814/2026, centred on the party’s demand for recognition and upload of its modified logo and colour design.
The NDC had challenged INEC’s refusal to recognise and upload the logo adopted by the party after its first National Executive Committee meeting.
Delivering judgment on Tuesday, September 8, Justice Abdulmalik ruled in favour of the political party.
The court held that INEC’s refusal to recognise the modified logo was unconstitutional and illegal and amounted to an infringement on the rights of the NDC.
Following the judgment, the commission has now reflected the new logo on its official platform, alongside the updated leadership structure of the party.
The development could have implications for the NDC’s preparations for the 2027 general election, particularly as political parties continue to organise and position themselves ahead of the polls.
The latest update also provides an indication of the importance of judicial interventions in resolving disputes between political parties and the electoral commission over issues relating to party identity, leadership and statutory recognition.
