From Paul Osuyi, Asaba

The Resident Electoral Commissioner (REC) in charge of Delta State, Monday Udoh-Tom has confirmed the dead of a staff of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) who was shot on Saturday during the Presidential and National Assembly elections in the state.

Udoh-Tom made the confirmation in Asaba at the collation centre for the presidential election.

He said the incident happened at a check point in Ukwuani area of the state.

The REC said the vehicle conveying the INEC staff and some youth corps members refused to stop at the check point, hence security operatives opened fire which resulted in the death.

He added that five corps members sustained injuries.

Meanwhile, Labour Party presidential candidate, Mr. Peter Obi, has sustained his lead, winning eleven out of the 16 councils released so far.
