The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has given full recognition to Hon Adekunle Rufai Omoaje as the national chairman of the Action Alliance.

This followed the judgment of the Federal High Court sitting in Osogbo which ordered the commission to recognise Omoaje and other members of the party’s National Executive Committee (NEC) who emerged at the elective national convention of the party held in Abeokuta, the Ogun State capital, in October 2023.

The court, presided over by Justice Funmilola Demi-Ajayi, had in its judgment delivered last Tuesday given a seven-day ultimatum to INEC to recognise Omoaje as the national chairman of the party and put his name on the commission’s portal.

The commission, in line with the court judgment, on Wednesday replaced the name of Kenneth Udeze, which had been on its portal, with that of Omoaje.

With this development, the names of all the NEC members of the party elected at the elective national convention held in Abeokuta are now on the commission’s portal, signifying full compliance with the judgment of the court.

A check by our correspondent on the INEC portal showed that the name of Omoaje was put on the portal on Thursday.

Commenting on the development, the National Chairman of the party, Omoaje, hailed the new Chairman of INEC, Prof Josh Amupitan, saying that his respect for the rule of law will further strengthen democracy in the country.

Omoaje, who commended Amupitan for obeying the court judgment, assured that the party will defend democracy and the rule of law in all circumstances, stressing that the development will foster peace, progress, and development in the nation’s political system.
