INEC declares Abdullahi Sule winner Nasarawa guber poll

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has declared the All Progressives Congress (APC) governorship candidate, Abdulahi Sule, winner of the March 9 governorship poll in Nasarawa State.

Abdullahi Sule polled 327,229 votes to defeat his closest rival, Mr David Ombugadu of the PDP who garnered 184, 281 votes while former Information Minister Mr Labaran Maku of APGA came a distant third with 132,784 votes.

After painstakingly collating the results, INEC state Returning Officer, Abdullahi Bala, declared that having polled the highest number of votes cast, Abdulahi Sule of the APC had been returned winner of the contest.

He said that out of 1,617,786 registered voters in the state , 686,303 voters were accredited, adding that 670,879 valid votes were castes and 10,521 votes were rejected while 681,400 votes were cast.

The state returning officer who declared the results in the early hours of today at INEC office in Lafia, further said that 138,706 votes were cancelled in 59 polling units in eight local government areas.

The APC governorship candidate won in 11 out of the 13 local government areas while APGA won in one local government and Zenith Labour party whose flag bearer is the son of late governor of the state, Dr Aliyu Akwe Doma, won in his Doma local government area of the state.
