The Coalition for Renewed Hope (CRH) and the Igbo bu Igbo Youth Network have welcomed the nomination of six new officials for the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) by President Bola Tinubu.

In a statement, the group said the nomination of four National Commissioners and two Resident Electoral Commissioners will deepen the credibility of the 2027 general elections.

The nominees are Prof. Mustapha Aliu, North West; Bashir Umar, North Central; Oluwatoyin Babalola, South West; and Bala Bila, who was reappointed.

According to the coalition, the nominees are persons of proven integrity and competence.

The group also dismissed allegations by opposition parties, including the ADC and NDC, that the nominations were part of a rigging plot, describing such claims as false.

It noted that the nomination of INEC officials is a constitutional responsibility of the president and is subject to senate confirmation.

The coalition therefore urged the Senate to promptly confirm the nominees to enable INEC to begin early preparations for the 2027 polls.

The statement was signed by Comrade James Okoronkwo, National Coordinator of the Coalition for Renewed Hope.
