President Bola Tinubu has said Nigerians can access consumer credit through the CREDICORP initiative to acquire solar systems, vehicles, digital devices and other essential assets without having to save for years.
Tinubu disclosed this in his Independence Day address on Thursday, as Nigeria marked its 66th year of independence.
The President said the government was using different interventions to support Nigerians who are struggling with the cost of living while creating pathways towards greater economic opportunities.
“It is why CREDICORP is giving working Nigerians access to consumer credit, allowing people to acquire vehicles, solar systems, digital devices and other essential assets without first having to accumulate years of savings,” Tinubu said.
He said the initiative was part of measures designed to support vulnerable Nigerians while the government works to improve productivity, create jobs and strengthen the economy.
Tinubu also highlighted the Nigerian Education Loan Fund (NELFUND), saying it was helping children from low-income families access higher education despite their parents’ inability to afford tuition.

According to him, the government is also strengthening direct support for poorer households through an improved National Social Register to ensure assistance reaches those who genuinely need it.
“These programmes are not substitutes for prosperity. They are a bridge to aid our nation’s citizens on their path towards it,” he said.
Tinubu said the government’s broader economic strategy was focused on lowering the cost of living by reducing the cost of producing and transporting goods.
He listed investment in agriculture, mechanisation, irrigation, storage, roads, railways and ports among measures aimed at improving productivity and reducing costs.
The President also said his administration would prioritise jobs, enterprise and industrial growth, while expanding digital connectivity and access to finance.
He maintained that the ultimate goal was to build an economy that would steadily lift Nigerians out of poverty and create productive opportunities across the country.
