Benue State Governor, Rev. Fr. Hyacinth Alia, has appealed to residents of the state to continue supporting his administration, President Bola Tinubu and the All Progressives Congress (APC).
Alia made the appeal in his message to mark Nigeria’s 66th Independence anniversary on Thursday.
The message, signed by his Chief Press Secretary, Sir Tersoo Kula, also urged citizens to remain united and play an active role in the development of their communities.
The governor described the anniversary as a moment for Nigerians to look back on the country’s journey, recognise the resilience of its people and recommit themselves to the values of freedom, peace, unity and development.
He said the significance of independence should extend beyond Nigeria’s freedom from colonial rule, arguing that citizens must also have the opportunity and willingness to participate responsibly in governance.
According to Alia, achieving meaningful development in Benue and Nigeria would require patience, cooperation and responsible citizenship.
He thanked Benue residents for their support and confidence in his administration, particularly during difficult periods.
“On this Independence Anniversary, I warmly thank the good people of Benue State for your unwavering support, prayers and belief in our shared vision for a better Benue. Your trust means a great deal to us, and it continues to inspire us to serve with greater dedication, especially in challenging times,” he said.
The governor then urged residents to maintain their support for his government, the Federal Government and the APC.
“I appeal to you to continue to support and cooperate with our administration, the administration of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and the All Progressives Congress,” Alia said.
He said continued cooperation would enable the government to consolidate its achievements, address existing challenges and work towards a Benue where citizens can live with dignity, hope and a sense of belonging.
Alia also encouraged residents to offer constructive suggestions to government while maintaining peaceful relations with one another.
“Let us continue to stand together in unity, peace and love for our state and our country,” he said.
He prayed for God’s continued blessings on Benue and Nigeria, as well as greater peace, prosperity and shared progress for the country.
