George Onyejiuwa, Owerri
A gubernatorial aspirant on the platform of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), Dr. Ahizechukwu Okorojiaku Daniel, says that Imo State is currently in comatose as the economy and other social services have collapsed under the All Progressives Congress (APC)-led administration of Governor Owelle Rochas Okorocha.
This was just as he said that civil servants and pensioners in the state were being continually shortchanged by the government of Okorocha who said has arbitrarily slashed their monthly salaries and pensions and pay them whenever he wishes.
Ahizechukwu who was a former Magistrate stated this, on Wednesday, in Owerri, the state capital, while declaring his gubernatorial ambition for the pointed that the people of Imo are now in dire straits as a result of the total collapse of the economy occasioned incompetence and bad management, noting that majority of the youths have either relocated to Port Harcourt or Lagos in search of jobs as no there are no functional industries in the state.
According to him, “Imo is today in the shambles and on a live support machine because nothing is working in the state, the economy as collapsed, there are no functional state owned hospitals and the people of the state now die from avoidable sicknesses.
“If you notice you will discover that burials now takes place on daily basis on like before when burials takes place only Saturday’s but today because of the high rate of death it is now everyday of the week, because people are suffering and even those who are working especially the civil servants, senior citizens and even judges are owned by the state government. Worst of all the governor see it as a favour to pay workers in the state”.
He added, ” Okorocha said that he had given free education in the state but most of the courses both at the State Polytechnic and the state university have lost accreditation because of lack of necessary equipment and qualified lecturers. For instance the of college of Medicine of the state university has lost accreditation in the last seven years it is that bad “.
The gubernatorial aspirant said that if he gets elected that his major priority would be to run a knowledge based economy, resuscitation of the dead industrial sector, the welfare of the civil servants and building of functional health centers across the 305 wards of the state, as well as ensuring that the dignity of the judiciary is restored.
