Imo State Governor, Hope Uzodimma, has approved the recruitment of 6,030 teachers to strengthen teaching and learning in primary and secondary schools across the state.
Commissioner for Information, Public Orientation and Strategy, Declan Emelumba, who made the disclosure in Owerri, yesterday, said the recruitment was part of the government’s broader strategy to improve the state’s education system.
Emelumba said the newly recruited teachers had completed a six-week intensive training programme at the state-owned Ben Uwajumogu College of Education, Ihitte Uboma.
He said the recruitment was designed to fill existing vacancies in schools and ensure that there were no gaps in teaching and learning across the 27 local government areas of the state. He said the exercise marked the first time in a long while that such a large number of teachers would be injected into the state’s school system at once.
The commissioner said the governor would personally address the newly recruited teachers at the Emmanuel Iwuanyanwu International Conference Centre, Owerri, to underscore the importance attached to the exercise. He said the meeting would give the teachers an opportunity to meet with the governor and receive further guidance on their responsibilities.
Emelumba added that attendance to the meeting would be restricted to teachers who participated in and completed the training programme at Ihitte Uboma.
