Operatives of the Anti-kidnapping Unit of the Imo State Police command have nabbed a notorious kidnap kingpin, Aralu Chukwudi Charis, from Nnewi North council of Anambra State.
The suspect allegedly masterminded several kidnapping and armed robbery operations in Imo State.
The spokesperson of the Imo State Police Command, Henry Okoye (ASP), who confirmed the arrest of the kidnap suspect from his hideout in Mgbidi, Oru East council of the state, at the weekend, said Charis has been terrorising the Oru East council and its environs with his criminal syndicate.
Okoye said, acting on credible intelligence and well coordinated operation, the operatives of the anti kidnapping unit of the command, led by CSP Oladimeji Odeyeyiwa, smoked out Aralu Chukwudi Charis, ‘m’, 40 years, of Otolo in Nnewi North LGA of Anambra State, from his criminal hideout at Mgbidi in Oru East LGA of Imo State, on April 13, 2024, where he was ambushed and eventually arrested.
Okoye said: “On searching his hideout, one Ash coloured Toyota Camry, 2005 model, with reg. no: MUS 509 DS Lagos, reportedly snatched from the owner, was recovered. In the course of investigation, he confessed that he is the gang leader of a deadly criminal syndicate terrorising the people of Imo State and provided crucial information that will assist the determined operatives in the arrest of his syndicate at large. The suspect will be arraigned in court upon completion of a comprehensive investigation”.
Meanwhile, the Commissioner of Police, Imo State Command, Aboki Danjuma, has reiterated the command’s unwavering commitment to continually clampdown on unrepentant criminal syndicates perpetrating insecurity in the state.
The CP advised the residents of Imo State, particularly the youths, to eschew crime, warning that perpetrators will always be exposed and, in most cases, end up in tragedy.
