Suspect is alleged to have raped the victim before murdering her

The police are said to have arrested the killer of the female nursing student, Wendy Acheumba, who was allegedly found with her throat slit by her attackers on Friday at her lodge.

According to sources from the area, the suspect, Onyema Okonkwo, a vulcaniser, allegedly raped his victim before taking her life.

Fresh developments have emerged in the tragic killing following the arrest of the suspect allegedly linked to the horrifying incident.

According to information gathered from security sources, the suspect was apprehended during ongoing investigations launched after the discovery of the victim’s lifeless body in her apartment.

Reports indicate that the suspect allegedly confessed during interrogation to raping the student before brutally taking her life after she reportedly identified them.

The suspect is said to have admitted that after the victim recognised them, they attacked her with a stick, inflicting severe injuries to her head before allegedly slitting her throat in an attempt to conceal their identities and escape arrest.

The disturbing revelation has further thrown the Umulogho community, students of the institution and residents of Obowo into deep mourning and outrage.

The arrest of the suspect, which was aided by the community youth body led by Chidiebere Iweajunwa, has been described by many residents as a major breakthrough in the ongoing investigation, with calls growing louder for speedy prosecution and justice for the deceased student.

Community members, youth groups and concerned citizens have continued to condemn the barbaric act, insisting that those responsible must face the full weight of the law.

The case has renewed calls for improved security around student hostels in the area.
