Imo: Joint security raids on IPOB sites, many killed

From Stanley Uzoaru, Owerri

A joint security team comprising the police, military, air force, navy, and the Department of State Services (DSS) personnel raided two camps of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) in Imo State on Wednesday, September 17.

According to the Commissioner of Police, Imo State Command, CP Aboki Danjuma, several IPOB members were neutralised during the operation.

Spokesperson of the State Police Command, Henry Okoye, in a statement he released to journalists, noted that the raid targeted IPOB/ESN terrorist camps in Ezioha, Mbaitoli LGA, and Umuele, Ubuakpu, and Amakor in Njaba LGA.

Okoye further disclosed that several suspects were arrested, while others escaped with bullet wounds.

However, exhibits recovered during the raid, he added, include a large cache of arms and ammunition, Improvised Explosive Devices (IEDs), and other incriminating items.

Meanwhile, Okoye asserted that the security agencies reaffirmed their united resolve to restore peace and security across the state.

Residents, he noted, are urged to go about their lawful businesses without fear, as normalcy, he assured, has been restored but encouraged the public to provide credible information on suspicious activities and report anyone with gunshot injuries to the nearest police station.
